Set your alarm, Breck. One of our favorite local traditions returns on Thursday, November 5, when Wake Up Breck fills coffee shops across town with free coffee, commemorative mugs and plenty of ski season excitement. It all happens the day before Breckenridge Ski Resort's planned opening day, and if you want a mug, you'll want to be early.

Tips for Getting a Mug

This is a get-there-early kind of event. Pick your shop the night before, plan to be in line before 7 a.m. and dress for a cold November morning in the mountains. In past years, mugs have been limited to one per person, so everyone in your crew should plan to come along.

Fill a Neighbor's Cup

Wake Up Breck also gives back. This year, the town and the ski resort are partnering with Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, a nonprofit that supports avalanche forecasting and education throughout Colorado. Participants are being asked to consider a donation, and it's an easy way to support a resource that so many backcountry skiers and riders here rely on.

Then Comes Opening Day

Breckenridge Ski Resort plans to open for the 2026-27 season on Friday, November 6, weather and conditions permitting. Opening day kicks off the resort's new Kingdom of Breck campaign, with giveaways and a Welcome to Winter party at the T-Bar.
